Quality Commitment

Shingle Roofing Application and RepairOur commitment to quality is reflected in every roof we have completed. Our customers testimonials and referrals are proof of the excellent job done by the company. One common complement received from all home owners was that the installers were very professional. They went about their work very diligently, were not verbally noisy, had no loud music playing, there was never any profanity, and were very courteous when approached or questioned by the homeowner. The following is a typical day by day scenario reflecting the care given to your property during the construction process:

Roofing Application
1st Day:
Typically we are able to begin to work within 3-5 days of the receipt of your insurance check. We will schedule the work with you and have you remove your cars from the garage or carport so that we can set a large waste container on your driveway next to the house. We then cover all surrounding plants and shrubs, and begin the tear-off. We take great care in protecting the surrounding area during this process.

We remove all roofing material, including all nails and staples as if these are left they will find a way to work through the new felt and shingle, creating a potential new source for a future leak. All roof mounts are lifted and later reset on top of new felt. This includes lifting the Air Conditioning unit, Evaporative unit, Solar units, Satellite dish, turbine vents, pipe jacks, etc. All decking ( typically ply-wood) and fascia is checked for damage and replaced. Flashings are put back into place. New felt is then rolled out and stapled in place over the entire roof and ridge to protect the house overnight. Two layers of felt are installed in all valleys as added protection. If it appears their is a chance of wind and/or rain we use Plastic Top Nails to hold the felt in place as the wind is less likely to tear the felt when using this large 1” headed nail.

Phoenix, AZ New Shingle Roofing Installation2nd Day:
Starter and drip edge are installed around all perimeter roof edges. This drip edge will be either brown or white to best match the new roof. The drip edge is applied to help protect the fascia from rain and extend the life of your new roof. Flashings are re-lifted and put back into place, with counter flashings added where needed. If a roof has a chimney it is very common for there to be a leak where the roof meets the chimney. At this time we will build the proper cricket to divert water away from the chimney if it did not exist.

The new shingles are then nailed into place (not stapled). Staples are used by many roofers as it results in a quicker application and is less expensive. The problem with staples is that if they are not installed correctly, the staple will cut partially through the shingle during application. This resulted from the pressure through the staple gun being set too high and the shingles soft from the high heat. Future winds can cause the staple to cut through the shingle and result in the shingle loss that is so prevalent as you pass through these windblown neighborhoods.

Roofing Installation Steps3rd Day:
The remainder of shingling will typically be accomplished during the third day to include applying the ridge. All appliances and vents are put back on the roof and shingles installed over their flashings. A recommended energy saving feature can be added at this time called a ridge vent system. Here the ridge is cut open approximately 4” for the entire length of the roof, and covered with a breathable, water resistant ridge cover. This allows your entire roof to breath as this is where the hottest air in your attic space collects, and this allows this hot air to escape. One foot of ridge vent has approximately the same venting capacity as a 10” turbine (approximately 48sq. in.).

Applying the ridge vent across a 60 foot ridge is equivalent to having 60 turbines on the highest portion of the roof. The turbines are removed and decking put into place to cover their existing hole. The turbine was also less efficient as it was placed approximately two foot down from the ridge and unable to remove the hottest air. This process also cleans up the look of the roof, and now the roof has less moving parts that can break and leak through its penetration. The net result is reduced monthly cooling bills and an extended life of the shingle. The oil in shingles will evaporate over time, which process is speeded up under higher heat.

All flashings and roof penetrations are then sealed with a weather resistant product such as plastic cement.
Shrubs and bushes will be uncovered and the entire roof and grounds area cleaned. A large bar magnet will be used to sweep the entire area in an attempt to pickup all nails and staples. All roofing materials will then be hauled away. We will leave you with a new roof that you will be proud of, and hopefully tell others of your experience.

Our patios and flat roofs are also replaced with the highest of material and expertise. Please call for details.
